OBTAINING AN IP ADDRESS FOR NETWORK CONNECTIVITY

Wireless Connectivity at Library (Reading Hall - 2nd Floor & 1st Floor & Ground Floor)
Note: Students are required to have a Wireless LAN Card to use this facility.

Configuring the TCP/IP Protocol
1. Open the [Start] Menu.
2. Navigate to [Settings] and select [Network and Dialup Connections].
3. Within the [Network and Dialup Connections], double-click the 'Local Area Connection' icon.
4. Click the [Properties] button.
5. Under [Components…], select 'Internet Protocol'.
6. Click [Properties].
7. Select the option 'Obtain an IP Address Automatically'.
8. Select the option 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.
9. Click OK .
10. Within the [Network and Dialup Connections], Click OK again.
11. You are done configuring TCP/IP.

Verifying Network Connection
1. Restart your computer.
2. Open your Internet browser. Successful connection to a website confirms that your computer is setup properly.
3. Alternately, select [Start] à [Run] and type ''cmd" in the Open box. Type "ipconfig /all" at the prompt and press Enter.
4. If you receive a valid IP address (i.e., 10.52.7.###) your setup is correct.
5. Note: '0.0.0.0' is an invalid IP address.
6. If you receive an invalid IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' and then 'ipconfig /renew'.

Also the following needs to be changed on your Internet browser to enable Internet Browsing.
For Internet Explorer: "Tools"->"Internet Options"->"Connections"->"LAN Settings"->"Proxy Server" : 10.1.1.71 "Port" : 8080
These settings will be in effect until further notice.
Use the following command to check if your settings are successful:
Go to [Start] -> [Run] -> Type "ping 10.52.7.1" and press the "Enter" key. (If you DO NOT get a "Request Timed Out " response then the connection is OK.) .
